Tobias Regell

Tobias Regell talks about black and white photography and inspiration:

”I got my first camera, a Pentax, when I was going on a language course in Great Britain My father told me to pawn it if I ran out of money, but I still got it. From that day I have never stopped photograph. I have been building darkrooms everywhere, in basements, in bathrooms…

I started my own business at 25 and have been working in this studio for almost thirty years now.

Black and white is more an image for me than color. Color is too close to reality but without smell and sounds. In black and white you can see what is important in a photo.

I get my inspiration from movies and meeting people. When been traveling in a city like Havanna I get inspirited by the people in the old city but also by the environment which is very important.”
